Meet Jasraj Seehra, Admin Assistant – North East London NHS Foundation Trust

Hi, my name is Jasraj Seehra, I’m 20 years old and I have been working at NELFT since December 2021 as a Kickstart Admin Assistant.

Growing up, my career ambitions were for me to enjoy my work, take pride in it, gain as much experience as possible and become an expert in my field.

I did always want to work for the NHS and I’m delighted this goal has become a reality. I feel my past work experience has played a vital role in securing this job.  I used to work in Customer Service and Business Admin and this background in admin management and working alongside customers and the general public has helped develop my confidence and ensure I work to the best of my ability.

I heard about this Kickstart role through an online advert from the Job Centre. There were two stages of the interview process, the first gave me an opportunity to talk about myself, my background and what I would like to achieve in the near future. The second stage of interviews gave me an opportunity to talk further about my experience and meet the team.

I work within the Appointments Team and work 25 hours per week for 6 months, which I think is a sensible approach to deciding whether working within this industry is right for me. An average day for me is answering as many calls as possible, booking appointments, sending out letters and SMS messages to patients and updating clinic lists.

I received very helpful training from my colleagues who have taught me everything I need to do to carry out the role successfully.  I have grown in confidence and working in a busy office has enabled me to make improvements to my time management and organisation skills.

Top Tip

I would say “go for it”. Apply for these programmes! You will learn so much and will receive full support from colleagues. The NHS is an amazing place to start your career. There are so many opportunities within the NHS, both clinical and non-clinical. There really is something for everyone.
